Mark Webber does not think that he is going to be the favourite at Silverstone – Formula 1
Mark Webber does not believe that he will be able to dominate the Silverstone Grand Prix this weekend.
The winner of the Monaco Grand Prix said that McLaren will be the team to beat at the British GP and tagged them as favourites.
Red Bull has shown good pace recently as Sebastian Vettel showed how well he can dominate the race with the Red Bull car as he raced away to a 20 second lead over other drivers in the race. It was only the issue with the engine that kept Vettel from winning the race.
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo recently showed his worry by asking his team to do something to match up to the pace of Red Bull’s RB8. Yet the Aussie feels that McLaren will be a strong team in front of their home crowd.
“For sure we didn't make the car slower in Valencia,” he said. “It was a step in the right direction but we're not kidding ourselves that we're going to be driving away from the rest of the field, I don't think that is going to be the case. But it was a good weekend in many situations in terms of development of the car.”
“Lewis was quick in Barcelona but he got a penalty so had to start at the back of the grid. McLaren are probably the favourites round here in terms of what we saw in Barcelona, but the form card is very hard to predict,” he added.
Webber is currently placed second in the Constructors’ Championship behind Alonso. The Aussie added that he thinks he has a good chance of winning the title this year but reiterated that the top five drivers have a good chance of winning the title this year because of the competitiveness seen in the current season.
Webber said that he enjoying driving in the current season and he hopes to keep on driving in Formula 1 next year as well.
It will be interesting to see how Webber fares at the British GP. The race is scheduled for July 8, 2012.
