Mark Webber downplays the legality issues surrounding Red Bull – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber said that he is bored by the rows over Red Bull’s legality issues.
The team has been the centre of attention when it came to engine specifications and other innovations that the team has introduced. It seems that Red Bull is always touching the grey area of the FIA regulations in order to gain that extra little bit of performance
and edge over its rivals.
The biggest scare for the team came just prior to the German Grand Prix where the stewards investigated the team’s engine mapping and it came to light that the team was getting some aerodynamic advantage using the extra torque from the engine.
Red bull though are not strangers to controversial innovations as the team used the off-throttle blown diffuser to good effect during the 2011 season.
The latest controversy to have surfaced is over Red bull engine mapping for which the FIA is seeking clarification. Further rumours of a device that allows manual adjustment of the cars’ suspension are emerging.
Webber has said that for the people all this is extremely boring as the team has been able to pass all the tests. He added that Red Bull have designed the car in accordance with the regulations but still there is a lot of hype surrounding the team,  part
of the problem that issues related to Red Bull get more attention from the media.
“I know other teams have been asked to address things with their cars, but [FIA directives] are not for general consumption,” he said. “And some of ours do make the general consumption, which is just the way it's been.”
“Whether it's with the wings or whatever - and there'll be something else I promise you that will pop up - we will always pass every single test,” he said. “Not one single team has protested us, because they know it's within the rules.”
“I don't know who's got the fastest car,” he added. “There's always talk that it's not the fastest car, but you need the most consistent one.”
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as the season moves into the second phase.
