Mark Webber expecting a tough challenge in 2011
Red Bull driver Mark Webber had an amazing season this year after he finished in 3rd place just 14 points behind the championship winner and his teammate Sebastian Vettel. Mark led the drivers’ standings for most of the season
and it seemed that the Aussie was the favourite for the title most of the time throughout the season. Things changed a lot after the Korean Grand Prix where both of the Red Bull drivers retired and Fernando Alonso took full advantage after he won the race
and snatched the drivers’ standings lead from Red Bull.
Webber claimed that Red Bull preferred Sebastian Vettel over him more and that since the team is hoping to evolve the team around the 2010 Formula 1 champion, the team has been undermining the Aussie driver and as a result, Mark was unable
to give his best possible performance.
However, Mark Webber believes that 2011 is going to be a lot different despite the legality of team orders.
“The team know the best way to defend our championship is to put both their feet forward in the best possible way. That is why we achieved so much as a team,” Webber said.
He is confident that the team will not choose his teammate over him in 2011 and the team will help both of their drivers equally in order to defend their title. Mark believes that his team is aware of his abilities especially after he
raced for almost 4 races with an injured shoulder.
The Australian driver hopes that his team will not use team orders in a negative way and he would not be forced to become a wingman for Sebastian Vettel.
“I am absolutely confident that next year will be a great opportunity for me to get phenomenal results again. I will need to beat everyone and one of those drivers is going to be Seb,” said the Aussie.
The two drivers have not been the best of friends especially after their crash at the Turkish grand prix where Sebastian Vettel tried to make an immature move on Mark Webber for the 1st place and as a result, crashed into Mark’s
car costing him some valuable points while Sebastian had to face retirement.
“Full credit to Seb to have the No. 1 on his car, but come first practice in Bahrain, that won’t make him go any faster,” added Webber.
