Mark Webber expects equal treatment from Red Bull Racing in 2011 season
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber recently stated that he is expecting his team not to favour either of their drivers in the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 season.
Both of the Red Bull drivers competed for the 2010 drivers’ title until the very final race of the season. Webber was in a better position of winning the title if his points and statistics were to be believed. But that did not count for much at the Abu Dhabi
Grand Prix where his teammate Sebastian Vettel came out victorious and won the drivers’ championship.
However, Webber claimed that the team gave more preference to Vettel. Both of the drivers did not have a very good relationship with each other either especially after the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix. In the race, Vettel tried to overtake Webber for the first
place and as a result, lost control and hit his car on the side which cost the team an obvious 1-2 finish and Mark Webber a vital win.
“You want a good, fair crack at it and if you get caned, so be it. But if you go to play at Wimbledon with flip-flops on and Federer is playing with Nikes, why bother turning up? The wings weren't worth a huge [advantage] but it was a tough decision for
the team. I think, going forward, that we would probably do things differently,” he told the media.
Other than that, the relationship further deteriorated after the team took off a new front wing from Mark’s car and bolted it on Sebastian’s during the 2010 British Grand Prix but the Aussie claims that things will happen differently now.
“It's that fine line you walk with the competitive instinct. You go out thinking, 'I don't want to get beaten today', and you are stretched and the big picture is almost forgotten about. Did Vettel crack Webber that day? You could say he might have,” he
added.
However, Webber is confident about the 2011 Formula 1 season and believes that he has the capacity to win the title this time.
