Mark Webber feels Sebastian Vettel’s run will be over soon – Formula 1 Update
The 34-year-old Australian driver, Mark Webber thinks that Sebastian Vettel’s winning streak will not last forever and will come to a halt.
Vettel has comprehensively out-matched his Australian team-mate on two occasions in the 2011 season, while Webber feels that mechanical issues are keeping him back. Webber insists that he is not fazed and panicked by his younger team-mate.
“I think if I was much younger, I would be panicking. But I'm not panicking at all, I've been around the block too many times,” commented Webber. He went on to comment that it is common for most people to make a comparison between the two drivers.
“Obviously Seb is driving really, really well, and he's on top of a lot of things at the moment. He's not just beaten me. He's beaten everyone. Nothing lasts forever,” insisted the Australian.
Webber had some issue with his car at his home track in Melbourne where his performance was not up to the mark. Later it was found out that his RB7 had some problems going into the race, he finished fifth and was disappointed by his performance.
In the Malaysian Grand Prix, Webber had a bad start and found himself in tenth place just after the first lap. He had to work very hard to quickly catch up with the top running drivers. Webber finished fourth in Sepang after an eventful race, where in the
final few laps he was neck-to-neck with Renault’s Nick Heidfeld.
The Red Bull team had an issue with their Kinetic Energy Recovery System which almost became the decisive moment in the final few laps of the Sepang race. Webber was unable to overtake the R31 of Heidfeld, as Vettel was fighting for his position against
McLaren’s Jenson Button at the top of the grid.
Red Bull has still not used the KERS system in their cars. It will be interesting to see if they decide to use the feature for the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. The race is scheduled for 17 April in Shanghai.
