Mark Webber feels contented after qualifying of 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber is feeling contented with his performance in the qualifying of 2012 German Grand Prix held at Hockenheimring.
Webber performed quite convincingly during the qualifying of the upcoming race in wet conditions and set the third best time of 1 minute and 41.496 seconds. Moreover, he followed his teammate, Sebastian Vettel and stayed ahead of Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
However, the Australian driver will take a start from the 8th grid position on the race day as he has to face five-place grid penalty because of an unscheduled gearbox change.
Nonetheless, he said that he is not feeling upset over the penalty and is very much pleased with his qualifying performance. He also said that he is focussing to attain competitive result in the upcoming race.
“It was tricky for all of us,” Webber said. “Obviously dodgy conditions, especially when it got wet. Obviously I did a better job than other guys who had five-place penalty; it was easy for all of us not to get it right today. So I'm very happy to be quite long way up, we could have done better here and there but we did our best there at that point. We could have maybe [pitted] Fernando stopped ifs, buts, shoulda, woulda, coulda doesn't count. We're third - eighth now with the penalty for the gearbox and looking to come forward tomorrow.”
In addition, he said that their target is to be able to perform well in all types of circumstances. He added that they are expecting a strong competition in the approaching race as all the contenders are busy in making the substantial preparations.
Nonetheless, he expressed that there are many races yet to come and they are confidently looking forward to fight for this year’s championship title.
At present, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Besides, he is 13 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and is 16 points ahead of the defending champion, Vettel.
Over and above, it will be exciting to see how the Aussie performs in the race ahead.
