Mark Webber feels delighted with his second place finish in 2013 British GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is feeling very happy over his second place finish in the dramatic British Grand Prix held at Silverstone circuit.
Webber performed really well in the qualifying of the British GP and managed to secure 4th grid slot behind his teammate, Sebastian Vettel. Later, he had a very poor start in the race and lost his front wing due to his collision with Romain Grosjean of Lotus. Resultantly, he was dropped out of the top ten positions. Nevertheless, he strike back incredibly when after recovering from the damage and successfully secured second podium finish.
The Australian driver expressed that after facing immense troubles in the beginning of the preceding race, he efficiently managed to limit the damage for his team and is feeling really pleased over his result. Besides, he admired the effort of his team and congratulated Nico Rosberg of Mercedes who took his second victory of the season in Silverstone.
“I don't think any of us expected it to unfold like this,” Webber said. “I had an horrendous start; no idea what happened there so we need to look in to what happened there after such good run of starts we had up to that. After that, contact with Grosjean, the wing was damaged and I thought 'My God, to change the front wing' but the boys did a great job there and then we really got in to the race.”
“I'll have a smile tonight. Nico deserved the win, Mercedes have been pushing like h**l,” he added.
Currently, he is standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 87 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Rosberg and behind his main rival, Lewis Hamilton. He has performed convincingly well in the season so far and has secured three podium finishes.
In contrast, despite being unable to score any points due to gearbox issue in the last race, Vettel is leading the drivers’ championship with 132 points and has a strong lead over his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
