Mark Webber happy with Red Bull but Jarno Trulli embarrassed with Lotus
In the 2010 Formula One season the Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were always under criticism of an in-house rivalry, with Webber starting to feel as the “number two” driver during the campaign.
Even with the Australian driver leading the driver’s title for most of the 2010 season and consequently finishing third on the table, his team-mate Vettel clinched the World Championship in the end with the help of a few one-on-one encounters between the
two.
Webber’s success at Red Bull could be attributed to the trust he has built with the team but it’s likely that the rivalry would sustain during the next season. Webber was optimistic about his relations with the team and his fellow driver saying there’s a
“healthy respect” between the two drivers, yet it is difficult to forge a partnership between two contenders fighting for the same crown.
"It's nice to have that trust and the continuity with those people while you're going forward as a professional. It takes only a small handful of people. Just stick with them", said Webber as he hailed the relationships throughout the team.
In other news, Jarno Trulli was quite disheartened by the row over the Lotus brand in Formula 1 and said it was 'embarrassing and surreal'. It seems that Tony Fernandes, the team boss, would use Renault engines, while using the Team Lotus name with Group
Lotus becoming the title sponsor of the erstwhile Renault squad in the 2011 season.
As for now, no signs of a resolution between the two Lotus-Renault teams sharing the 2011 grid are apparent but Trulli, being a well experienced driver, said it is generally negative for the Lotus image as a whole, without taking sides in the dispute.
Trulli reiterated that after a disappointing 2010 season, he was indeed looking forward positively for 2011 to be a more successful year. The 2010 car for the driver was devastated with unreliability and he said, "One year I can suffer, another one no,"
as he would not wish to have a write off for more than one season.
