Mark Webber hints a 2012 team shift, says Sebastian Vettel beatable – Formula 1 Update
The 34-year-old Australian driver, Mark Webber, has said that if his stint with the Red Bull team in the current season does not work out, he might change his side for the 2012 season.
Talking about his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, Mark commented that the young German is fast, but beatable.
From the last few weeks, statements from the Red Bull camp have hinted that they do not want Webber in the team. The cold war between the team and Webber started when Vettel’s contract was extended until 2014, but Webber’s future was not discussed.
Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, added fuel to the issue by saying that Lewis Hamilton should drive alongside Vettel in the Red Bull team, after Webber leaves the team after the 2011 season. Team Boss, Christian Horner, said that Webber will not be able to continue in Formula 1, if he leaves a top team like Red Bull Racing.
Webber has now hit back to the criticism by the Red Bull team and said that he might leave the team at the end of the 2011 season. The Australian added, “When this championship ends my contract with Red Bull does as well. But I don't think it depends on the results, I want to win for me. We'll see. If the team doesn't want me anymore, I will hang up my helmet or change teams?”
Webber was the 'Driver of the Day' in the Chinese Grand Prix, when he came from the 18th spot to finish third, only two seconds shy of the current Formula 1 Champion, Vettel.
After the Shanghai race, Webber stated that he was happy that his team-mate Vettel was beaten by McLaren’s Hamilton. Now, Webber has again said that Vettel is not unstoppable.
The Australian commented about Vettel and said, “Sebastian is very fast and he now has a good amount of experience. But he's not unbeatable. I prefer not to talk about his weaknesses, but we all have them.”
It will be interesting to see how the 2011 season ends for Webber and the Red Bull team. With the next race in Turkey around the corner, the team-mate war between Webber and Vettel may take another interesting turn in Istanbul.
