Mark Webber hopes to race for Red Bull Racing Team until he retires - Formula 1 update
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber is eager to race for Red Bull until he retires but he stated that he does not intend to retire by the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Mark’s contract with the team is valid until the end of 2011 and rumours suggest that
this year might be his final year with the team.
He was one of the top running competitors for the 2010 drivers’ title, and enabled his team to win the constructors’ title. Webber finished in 3rd place, just 24 points short of the 2010 Champion and his team-mate Sebastian Vettel, after actively
competing for the title until the very last race of the 2010 Formula 1 season.
However, Mark revealed back in 2010 that his team considered him as their “Number 2” driver, which means that his relationship with the team was not good.
“I would believe so. I want to continue, any driver wants this, racing towards the front and hanging out with these punks... week in, week out,” he told the media when asked if he would finish his career with Red Bull.
His relationship with his team-mate Sebastian Vettel suffered a huge dent after Sebastian attempted an awful overtaking manoeuvre on Mark’s RB6 during the Turkish Grand Prix. Vettel failed and collided into Webber's car, depriving him of his lead, and retiring
from the race himself.
“Obviously we've had a few headwinds here and there within the team, but to have two drivers do what we did last year is a unique situation and one of them might not - was not - supposed to have been in that situation,” he said.
Nevertheless, Webber believes that the team is now comfortable with him and they have “buried the hatchet”.
“To race with them is very rewarding and enjoyable. Of course you have nerves at the time. There's not a guy in the pit lane who doesn't have nerves. They'd be lying if they told you they didn't,” he added.
However, the Aussie is confident that his team has produced a very strong car for the 2011 Formula 1 season and he is aiming for the drivers’ title once again this season. According to the pre-season test sessions’ results, it is expected that Red Bull Racing
Team has the best car in terms of pace for the 2011 Formula 1 season but since most of the teams don’t aim for good results during the pre-season test sessions, predicting the upcoming season based on these results is not reliable and accurate.
