Mark Webber insists F1 tyres have to be more durable and functional – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that F1 tyres should be more durable and functional after the occurrence of some unpleasant incidents of tyre explosion in Silverstone.
Many drivers were encountered with some dreadful situations in the British Grand Prix because of multiple tyre blow outs. Although, Pirelli have made the necessary changes to make the rear tyres stronger for the German GP, they said that some teams pushed
the limits with the tyres at Silverstone circuit which eventually caused the explosions. However, Webber has asserted that the tyres should be strong enough to handle such pressure so as to ensure the safety of all the drivers in the sport.
In addition, he said that if the Italian company was aware of the fact that some teams push the tyres to the limits, it must be prepared to provide the required product. Besides, he said that all the teams follow the FIA instructions regarding construction,
crash tests and all the other things very well, therefore the tyre supplier must also do the same.
“In this environment, at this level, you have to have a product that is durable and functional at all venues we go to and under all circumstances,” he said. “Pirelli know teams who push tyres to limits and they have to be ready for that going forward, but
safety is number one. The teams have very strict rules on construction, crash tests, all these things, which we have to meet every year, and they are tough tests, so we need to make sure the suppliers are doing the same.”
“We've tried to in the past, but the normal fun and games come into it,” he added.
The Aussie impressed everyone with his incredible pace in the preceding race. He secured an inspiring second podium finish despite facing some severe setbacks in the beginning. At present, he is standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 87
points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind his major opponent, Lewis Hamilton.
It will be exciting to see how he performs in this weekend’s race.
