Mark Webber is Ferrari material – Bernie Ecclestone

FIA’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone has been extremely active in 2010 and his involvement in the sport is the reason why Formula 1 is what it is today.
Red Bull became a part of Formula 1 just 6 years ago and it seems that Red Bull has been one of the fastest growing teams in the sport. With the help of Adrian Newey and Christian Horner, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were able to secure the constructors’
title this year while Sebastian Vettel became the youngest champion in the history of the sport.
However, Mark Webber was not happy with his team in the second half of the season as he stated that the team is mentally favouring Sebastian Vettel because he is young and the team wants to maintain its pace and dominance through him mainly.
The 80 year old mastermind Bernie Ecclestone stated that it was just a matter of time before Sebastian Vettel would win the drivers’ title but it seems that it happened sooner than we all thought.
Bernie added that Mark Webber was meant to be in Ferrari since the beginning of his career but it seems that it just wasn’t meant to be.
“Had Webber been in a good car five years ago, maybe he would have been World Champion five years ago. I think he's a Ferrari driver as he's got the sort of character the Old Man would have liked,” said Bernie.
However, Ecclestone was quite disappointed by Michael Schumacher’s performance this year as he expected the German driver to win again but stated that after 2010, Nico Rosberg has proved that he is a better driver than Michael and is potentially the best
driver on the grid.
“You'd have to look at it and ask did Michael Schumacher need to come back? What was the purpose? He wanted to come back because he knows he can win, but unfortunately the car didn't allow that to happen,” he said.
Bernie took a 180 degree turn after that statement and discussed the main reason why the three new teams failed to perform in 2010. Apparently, it was Max Mosley’s fault.
“It was really Max Mosley's fault, telling them they could come in and be contenders for 30 million [pounds sterling]. But they're here now and, provided they don't walk around with begging bowls, it's good to have them,” said the 80 year old.
