Mark Webber looking forward to his second home race in Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber has said that the British GP is his second home race, as he lives in the United Kingdom.
Therefore, the Australian driver wishes to do well in the race and stated, “It’s the home race for a lot of the team and it’s my second home race, as I live in the UK. Formula One has been an integral part of UK motorsport for such a long time. The Silverstone
GP is a brilliant weekend, it’s such a prestigious event and that’s why it’s so nice to get a great result there.”
Last year, Webber proved to be quite strong in the Silverstone GP and finished on top, beating Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
However, the veteran driver rates his maiden victory at the circuit highly, as the track was even more challenging back then.
He added, “I think the 2010 victory was pretty special - it was my first British GP win. It’s an old school circuit, fast and flowing. It’s very demanding on the driver in terms of accuracy, and the car also.”
Some modifications have been made at the Silverstone circuit over the past couple of years, which has made things slightly less tough for the drivers. Despite that, it remains a demanding track and even a simple mistake at any of the corners can cost dearly.
Although Webber has enjoyed very good luck in the British GP, things will not be easy for him this time around. He will have to watch out for rivals Ferrari, who have historically been strong in this race.
During the last season, Fernando Alonso did not have the fastest car on the grid, but he still managed to qualify on pole in Silverstone. He was unable to finish on top of the podium, as he lacked the race pace compared to others, but still secured the second
spot, which was quite impressive.
Things have changed this year for the Ferrari driver, as he is in a position to attack his rivals throughout the weekend. He will definitely be a top contender for pole and will cause problems for the Red Bull duo, if he does not suffer any technical issues.
