Mark Webber not ready to lull away ever for a while
The uncertainties and surprises that this season has offered right from its beginning make the Red Bull driver Mark Webber worried and concerned. Despite his 14 points’ lead the Australian racer believes that he needs only race
wins now till the season packs up.
The leader of the chart believes that there is no time to sit back and rely on the minimal edge that he currently has over the other drivers as the charts have taken dramatic changes all through the season.
The 2010 Formula One season had been a very awe-inspiring and thrilling one. There have been startling changes in the charts all through the season which have kept the race followers biting their nails and dropping their jaws race
after race. Now the season is only left with three more rounds and the top five drivers stand with just a difference of 31 points. One more race win by any of the drivers can turn the tables completely.
Mark Webber, who tops the charts currently, has a total of 220 points whereas the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso follows him with 206 points. The third place in the charts is occupied by Webber’s team mate Sebastian Vettel, who
has scored 206 points. At 4th and 5th places the two McLaren men Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button stand with their 192 and 189 points respectively.
Though the chances of Webber are pretty high yet he is adamant to give in his best in order to keep the leadership going. Webber insists that the tough competition does not allow him to lull even for a while.
The next race of the season, to be held at the newly built track of South Korea is expected to play a very crucial and decisive role in the championship. While talking about the upcoming races now Webber said, "No, I can't think
like that about playing the percentages. It won't be enough. I need to keep racing hard and going for victories. Clearly, of course, if my rivals have a rough weekend it makes it a bit harder for them and it gives me a bit more scope, but I'm not looking to
abuse that because it can all go pear-shaped very fast.”
He further told that having a lead in the points’ tally no doubt makes one feel good but that is only when there is a single race to go or when your competitors stay far off. In the prevailing situation, he told, that this tiny
lead does not serve the purpose.
Moreover, the upcoming race is very unpredictable as Korea is to hold the first race on its soil. The track is not mastered by anyone; it will be equally tough and challenging for everyone. Though a lot is known theoretically yet
driving on a circuit practically is very different from talking about it.
Moreover, the competitors of the Australian driver are all equally determined and competitive. The experience of two world Championships and a very competitive Formula One car makes him one of the strongest threats to the championship
while Vettel, who bagged his third victory of the season last week at Suzuka has one of the fastest cars of the season and has demonstrated great competing skills in some of the early races.
Moreover, McLaren is also very confident for the last three races. The team will be coming to Korea with some of their latest updates, for which they are very positive.
"I'll give nothing, leave no change on the table and do the best I can. The points will look after themselves. Like I said, you need to be leading the championship at the last race, not now,” Webber concluded saying.
