Mark Webber not underestimating Lotus Renault GP and Mercedes GP in 2011 Formula 1 season
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber has said that Lotus Renault GP and Mercedes GP are going to be a challenge for the top running teams in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He added that both the teams might surprise the spectators with their new cars.
“I think the Renault and Mercedes are fast, yeah, they're not hanging around. They've done a good job in the winter. Renault have always been there or thereabouts. They've got a very experienced team there at Enstone so it will be very interesting,” he said.
Red Bull are the favourites for the season-opening race that is scheduled to take place in Australia on 27 March, 2011.
Other than Red Bull, Ferrari are expected to be quite competitive as well while McLaren-Mercedes are not looking good so far as they are going through some major reliability issues with their new car.
Nevertheless, Webber said that he is not ruling out Mercedes or Renault as they have proved that they have the pace to compete alongside the top running teams as well but he questioned both of the teams’ consistency throughout the season.
“Also Mercedes have had a good finish to winter testing and they're going to be winning some races for sure this year. They've showed good reliability so there's no reason why they couldn't challenge for the title along with McLaren and Ferrari,” he added.
Other than that, he also responded to Lewis Hamilton’s recent comments that Red Bull is just a “drinks company” by saying that the same drinks company won both the titles in 2010 and are hoping to do the same once again in the new season.
Red Bull Racing Team’s new car RB7 looks promising for the new season but the real test is going to be the Australian Grand Prix where the new car’s potential would be critically analysed as compared to its rivals.
