Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing laments third position at 2011 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing feels awful at not being able to finish at the podium at the inaugural 2011 Indian Grand Prix which was held on October 30 in the Greater Noida area, a few kilometres from Delhi.
Webber is reported to have blamed his car’s pace for this and held the tyre-strategy employed during the race as a major contributing factor for his lost position.
The Aussie who started off from second position at the grid, looked pretty comfortable in the third position during the first stint trailing Jenson Button of McLaren-Mercedes. He, however, could not sustain the third position for long when Webber fell to
fourth position after the second round of pit stops.
All efforts to re-gain his lost position and the fierce battle that he had put to improve his performance could not help him steal the show from the Spaniard, and hence proved futile.
The race ended with Sebastian Vettel of RBR on the top step of the podium with Button on second and Alonso third.
Webber blames his fourth position to the race strategy that was used. He feels that this is a problem that he has been facing in past races as well.
Webber said, “It's pretty much the general story of this year - I just don't have the pace at the end of the stints, so I run out of tyres and then lose strategy. It means I have to pit earlier and it makes life harder. In the end, I wasn't quick enough.”
He further added, “It was a good fight with Fernando, but the McLarens and Ferraris were pretty strong in the first sector, Jenson got me on the first lap on the back straight. I was quick against him in the first few laps, but after that, as soon as you
fight you chew up the tyres.”
After experiencing the Indian Subcontinent, the teams now head to Abu Dhabi for the second last race of the ongoing 2011 season of Formula 1. The race is scheduled to take place from November 11-13, 2011 at the Etihad Airways’ sponsored Yas Marina circuit.
Let’s see how the teams fare at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which is set to begin two weeks from now.
