Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing says consistency is the key to success – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing says that the driver with the most consistent performances will win the 2012 Formula 1 championship rather than the one with the fastest car.
Currently holding the second place in the drivers’ championship, the Australian driver said that there are always talks and different opinions about the fastest car. He believes that no one has the fastest car at the moment because all of the cars are competitive.
Furthermore, he said that no one will be able to get a distinct margin in terms of points and the latter half of the season will witness close competition between the leading drivers. He added that days in which drivers get distinct margins in terms of points
are rare.
The Australian driver said, “I don't know who's got the fastest car. There's always talk that it's not the fastest car, but you need the most consistent one. I don't think anyone's got the fastest car at the moment. We did after Valencia and then Fernando
had it at Silverstone until six laps to go and then all of a sudden we had it again. And then McLaren turned up for a few weeks.”
He said that the fastest car was enjoyed by Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren but it was all random and not confined to a single team.
Although Webber holds the second place in the drivers’ championship, with 124 points, he was unable to perform convincingly in the Hungarian and German Grands Prix.
In both grands prix he was only able to finish at 8th place after having started the race 11th grid position in Hungarian GP and 8th grid place in German GP.
The last two grands prix only added 8 point to his scorecard, whereas in the British Grand Prix he left the circuit as a winner, having started at 2nd grid position. The British GP gave him substantial advantage of 25 points.
Currently there is a very close competition for the second, third and fourth place in the championship between Webber, his teammate, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren with 124, 122 and 117 respectively.
