Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing team hoping for equality in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing is hoping for an equal treatment relative to his teammate Sebastian Vettel, admitting that he will have to work a lot on scaling up his performance for the next season.
In the 2010 season’s finale race at the Yas Marina Circuit, Webber was all-set to claim his championship title when a sudden shift in the events paved way for Vettel to grab the crown, pushing Webber at the third place behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
This year has been very slow and not so promising for the 35-year-old Australian who admitted that he had been struggling with the new Pirelli tyres and due to poor race starts was unable to catch pace with his German teammate who has been out rightly dominant
throughout the season.
Vettel has 11 wins to his credit from the 17 races held in the season so far while Webber on the other hand has none yet. Hence, Vettel has clearly outshone Webber at the qualifiers and in the races and has had a very successful year with RBR7.
Webber’s performance this season, has been not as good as it should have been and after looking at his strong show last year, it can be said that he definitely could have done much better than this.
Having recently secured an extension in his contract with the Milton-Keynes based outfit into 2012, he feels extremely delighted and excited for the next season’s races. Webber will be serving RBR and driving alongside Formula 1 prodigy and double champion
Sebastian Vettel for another year until his term expires.
Commenting on what happens after his deal with RBR ends, he said that rather than working for another team, he would prefer to quit Formula 1.
He said, “Someone like me who has come through from teams without many resources, like Minardi and Williams and then come to a championship structure like we have at Red Bull, there is no going backwards. From here I will go home, not to a small team again.
So when I leave here I will do something else rather than race in Formula One.”
Webber is currently at fourth position on the 2011 drivers’ championship standings, 6 points behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Let’s see how Webber manages to pick pace and improve his performance next season.
