Mark Webber predicts Lotus will challenge at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber expects that Lotus team with its drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean will fight strongly with McLaren and Red Bull at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix which is going to be held at Sepang International Circuit, this weekend.
Lotus showed some good performance during the qualifying on Saturday before the first Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia where Romain Grosjean qualified at third for the race grid. However, unfortunately he could not be able to show his performance
at the race.
Nevertheless, Grosjean’s teammate, Raikkonen started from 17th place in the grid and performed reasonably well to finish at seventh place after the race.
Moreover, the Australian driver, Webber who stood at fourth place following Lewis Hamilton of McLaren at the first GP, has said that the Sepang circuit of the next race would prove out to be more welcoming for Lotus as compared to the track of the season
opener.
“Malaysia is quite an aerodynamically demanding track and the Lotus looks good in that area,” Webber said. “So I'd also expect a challenge from Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean in Sepang. I think it will be a cracking grand prix and I'm really looking
forward to it. It's going to be fascinating to see how the next few grands prix go.”
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier said that they should not be regarded as one of the second class teams while he was positive that they could challenge the top most teams which include McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari.
Furthermore, Webber believed that the strategy concerning the tyres would play a very important role while he said that it might lead to even more fascinating action on the circuit of the second race.
He also said that the track for the next GP provides more opportunities for overtaking as compared to the Albert Park.
“There's clearly a lot more chance to overtake there, too - Melbourne is a tricky place to get past anyone, but Malaysia's not like that. If you have a pace advantage, you tend to be able to get through,” he said.
