Mark Webber ready to pose a more serious challenge to Vettel: Formula 1 News
Red Bull Racing team's boss, Christian Horner, has said that after getting an entire grip on the new Pirelli tyres, his team driver, Mark Webber is ready to pose a more serious challenge to Sebastian Vettel in forthcoming 2011 season races.
In ongoing season, both the drivers now have a nominal gap between each other, as Webber ignored his tough start in the season and aimed to qualify better in the remaining races of the season. Despite the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) issues,
which he had in the start of 2011 season’s races, he worked hard and tried to overcome his large gap with his team-mate, Vettel.
Horner added that he thinks it is a different characteristic of 2011 Pirelli tyres, as various set of tyres out-qualified Vettel and out-raced Webber in all four races so far this season.
He went on to say, "Seb's driving style, and the way he has adopted his driving style, suit the tyre. Mark is getting better and better at that with more mileage, and I think we have seen them converging over recent races. I expect that to be the case
when we head back to circuits that Mark has traditionally been very strong at."
The team's boss believes that it is too early to state that Webber will move strongly in the next races of the season, because there are so many challenging races, which had been scheduled on 2011 year’s race calendar.
He further added, “We are still pretty early in the season. They haven't been close to each other during the races in the early part, but over the last couple of races they have come much closer together. We are fortunate to have two drivers with such
quality in the team."
On the other hand, the Australian driver spoke about his upcoming races. He added that at this moment, when he has a grip and good understanding with the tyres, he is very excited about the next few races, especially about Barcelona and Monaco race.
Webber further added that he hopes his car will show its good run on the both grids. The team has to work hard and maintain its current race performance over the remaining season.
Horner also discussed Vettel and said that he has to stay cool on the grid over next few races, if he wants some more race victories this season. He admitted that the current world champion is racing much better than 2010 year. The boss praised the
excellent performance of Vettel, as he enjoyed trouble-free outing in Turkey and put his team on the top spot.
The next race will take place in Spain, on May 22. It will be interesting to see how both drivers retain their Turkish race position on Circuit de Catalunya track in Spain.
