Mark Webber reveals that his future depends on his current performances – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber has revealed his future is dependent on the results he achieves in the current season.
Webber’s contract with Red Bull ends at the end of 2012 and there were speculations that the team might be looking into other drivers to replace the Aussie.
Red Bull has denied these speculations and have hinted that they intend to keep the Webber beyond 2012. There have been other rumours linking the Aussie with Ferrari beyond 2012. Ferrari is struggling with Felipe Massa who has not been able to perform in
recent times to his potential and it has led to rumours of a few names coming up for the 2013 including Webber’s.
Webber only signs one-year contracts which show that he might be interested in changing teams each year.
“The situation depends on the results I get this year,” Webber told Autosprint. “They've been very inconsistent this year. Up to the Monaco GP I hadn't even been on the podium, then I won. But qualifying has so far gone very well for me. As far as I'm concerned,
I'm driving very well, and I see no difference with last year's situation.”
It is still unclear whether the Aussie is going to stay with Red Bull or not, but if he stays at Red Bull he will be playing a supporting role to Sebastian Vettel even though
Webber said that at the moment he does not have a contract for next year just like last year. He added that his agreement is only from one season to the next one and whenever the contract expires he has not really gone on the market and has stuck with Red
Bull so far. He indicated that he might sign up with Red Bull yet again for another year.
Webber has been consistent in a highly unpredictably season, where there have been seven different winners out of the seven Grands Prix completed so far. He won the Monaco Grand Prix a difficult street circuit. He will be confident going into the Valencia
Grand Prix another complex street circuit.
It will be interesting to see how Webber takes his decision at the end of the season. Whether his good results will motivate him to leave Red Bull or stay with them remains to be seen.
