Mark Webber ripped off radio connection from his helmet at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he faced problems with his radio during the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix because of which he ripped off the cord of the radio from his helmet.
Moreover, Webber said that the radio was getting too loud and it was quite difficult for him to keep his focus on the race in rainy conditions at Sepang.
Nevertheless, he managed to secure fourth place in the second GP which is the same result he has achieved in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
“Eventually, I ended up ripping my radio connection out of my helmet because it was just getting too distracting. That's quite a big call, because you know once you've done that you're never going to get it back again. I had to do it, though. I was getting
squawking and static in my ears, which changed depending on which corner I was in. It was really loud, too. It is not what you need when you're going through the sort of demanding corners you have in Malaysia on a wet track,” he said.
Moreover, it would be important to mention here that Webber’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel overlooked the team’s instructions to retire his car, as according to the team he also suffered due to an out of order radio.
However, it has been speculated that Vettel ignored the team orders intentionally as he struggled with his performance in the second race as he could not score even a single point.
In addition, he passed quite an arrogant expression to the Narain Karthikeyan of Hispania Racing Team and called him ‘cucumber’. Nevertheless, he faced criticism on his indecent behaviour afterwards.
Regardless of the issues faced by Red Bull during the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in which they only covered 23 laps and remained last on the timesheets mainly due to upgrades made in RB8, the defending
champions had still been deemed as the front-runner.
However, the winner of the last two world championship titles need plenty of work to do in order to make the necessary developments in their car and substantial preparations to perform well in the races ahead.
