Mark Webber rues over his retirement in 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that nothing worked out for them in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and he failed to attain any good result because of his retirement.
Webber performed impressively well in the qualifying of the preceding race at Yas Marina Circuit and secured second grid slot. However, he was relegated to fourth place just in the beginning of the race because of his poor race and was later overtaken by
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Afterwards, he tried to pass Pastor Maldonado of Williams and was tipped into a twist, but he managed to recover quickly. Later on, he was unfortunately retired after his collision with Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The Aussie said that even though his car was competent enough to score victory in the last race, but he could not optimise the opportunity because of the unpleasant incident.
“Nothing really worked out for us today,” Webber said. “I think we were strong, but we never got free air and it's difficult here with traffic; we saw quite a few incidents where people were trying to pass.”
“Ultimately, in the incident that ended my race, I tried to go down the inside when the cars ahead made contact, I thought there was an opportunity, but then Grosjean made contact with my car and that was the end for us. Whatever we tried today, it just
wasn't working out,” the Australian driver added.
In addition, he said that he is very upset that he could not attain promising result for his team. Nevertheless, he asserted that he is positively looking forward to deliver his best in the remaining two races of the ongoing season so as to secure a good
position in this year’s championship.
On the other hand, the team principal, Christian Horner said that their driver caught up in few unlikeable occurrences due to which he could not maximise the given opportunities.
At present, the 36-year-old is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship and is ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton. Let’s see how he performs in the last two races of the season.
