Mark Webber says Australian Grand Prix will get a major boost after becoming the 2011 season opener
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he believes the Australian Grand Prix will get a major boost after becoming the season opening race for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“This is a real great positive boost. As usual with someone's little bit of misfortune or bad luck, which is certainly the case with this one, someone receives a bit of a boost,” said Webber.
Bahrain was scheduled to be the opening race for the 2011 Formula 1 season but due to the political unrest in the country at the moment, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) was forced to cancel the race due to security concerns.
The organisers of the Australian Grand Prix have been going through a lot of problems and have not been on good terms with the FIA Chief Bernie Ecclestone lately.
However, the Australian driver is pretty excited about his home race and since Red Bull Racing are expected to be one of the top running teams in the new season, it would be great to see them at the top of their game once again.
Webber finished in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings in 2010 and challenged for the drivers’ title until the very final race of the season. The Australian led the drivers’ standings for most part of the season as well but his teammate Fernando
Alonso became the champion when he won the grand finale of the season at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
However, Webber is confident about the upcoming season and is aiming for nothing less than the title.
Since the season opening race is going to be Webber’s home race, it is going to be interesting to see how he performs in front of his own people, who will certainly be having a lot of expectations from the veteran.
