Mark Webber says Fernando Alonso’s driving was flawless in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber has admitted that Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso displayed a flawless driving throughout the 2012 F1 season which makes his defeat very disappointing for him.
“I don't think he put a wheel wrong all year,” Webber said. “That's the reason I think he's so disappointed. He felt he probably did everything he could. Was it his best season ever in terms of what he did? It could well be. He couldn't have done much more.
To still miss out by just three points - it was lucky I passed him at Silverstone.”
Even though it was Webber’s teammate Sebastian Vettel who took the championship fight right to the end of the season against Alonso and also beat him by three points but in the beginning it was Alonso who was leading and Webber was closest to him with a
forty points difference ahead of the Belgian GP. Webber won two races this season; one of which was in Britain where he overtook Alonso for the victory.
Vettel, who was quite inconsistent until the mid of the season, turned the odds into his favour as the season reached Singapore. From that point onwards, Vettel was successful at maintaining his lead right till the final race.
However, most of the F1 community believes that Alonso was the more deserving driver to win since they agree with Webber’s opinion that the Spanish driver did everything which should have been for winning the title.
Vettel has also stated that even though Alonso was his rival, he respects him as a driver and for fighting the way he did but in the end everyman is for himself. He told that both teams were fighting and there is no point discussing who fought harder. He
insisted that it was a long season and the driver who scored more points won the title. He admitted that he is happy it was the Red Bull team and not Ferrari.
Alonso is already pushing Ferrari to provide him with a quicker car for the 2013 F1 season and also take the rules to the edge as Red Bull does.
