Mark Webber says Red Bull Racing are not concerned with Ferrari appeal – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that they are not at all concerned with Ferrari’s appeal against Sebastian Vettel’s overtake which they think was during the yellow flag in the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix held at Interlagos.
Vettel passed Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso while the yellow warning lights were blinking in his cockpit in the final race of the year and successfully won his third consecutive championship title after securing 6th place finish in the season
finale. Moreover, he was just 3 points ahead of his main rival, Fernando Alonso of the Scarlet team in the championship fight.
Even though, the Italian team has protested against the veteran German driver’s pass which they think is illegal. However, Webber believes that the petition is not going to succeed as the race has already been won and the results have been finalised.
"I think it's unlikely (an appeal will succeed)," the Aussie told AAP. "I think the race is won. It's all over. I think everything should be all right."
In addition, he asserted that they are not feeling any kind of pressure because of the appeal and are extremely happy after winning their third consecutive double world championship title.
"I don't think so," the Aussie replied when he was asked whether Red Bull are concerned or not.
It will be important to note that Ferrari were quite confident before making the appeal as they think that Alonso is the real winner of the championship title as Vettel’s overtake was unfair.
"We're looking at the video. We have until tomorrow to file an appeal,” Ferrari press officer Luca Colajanni told the Associated Press.
It is to be noted that if the appeal will succeed then the current winner of the championship will face 20-second penalty and will drop to 8th place as a result of which the Spaniard will become the champion. However, the chances seem to be too
low as nobody is paying much attention towards Ferrari’s petition.
It will be interesting to see what decision FIA take in this matter and whether the championship title will be swapped between the two rivals or not.
