Mark Webber says Red Bull still needs some learning to gain perfection – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber says that Red Bull Racing still needs learning in some issues to gain perfection.
He said it about the new RB8 after he had an imperfect morning due to some problem in the gearbox during the second pre-season Formula 1 test at Barcelona.
Mark’s best time during the test drive was not good enough to reach even in the top five and was only capable of achieving the sixth fastest position.
After an extended session in the garage, Mark could only be able to complete 26 laps before lunch. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, he managed to complete 97 laps in total.
“All in all, it wasn't a bad day at all,” Webber said. “Not the smoothest of morning's and we didn't get too many laps done there, but in the afternoon the race simulation went OK. We're still learning plenty.”
Mark expressed that more test driving would have proven more helpful. Nevertheless, the laps during the afternoon session which were aimed at getting the information about the race simulations provided the team with some important information for creating
a better understanding about the car.
“It would have been nice to have done a few more laps, but I think everyone always wants to get 20 or 30 more and, even with the problem this morning, there were loads of positives to look at. We're a very ambitious team, so we'll keep working on that,”
said Webber.
Red Bull’s head of race engineering, Ian Morgan has asserted that due to the some potential issues, we had to cut short the race simulation which ultimately resulted into a false apprehension.
Morgan said that Mark could not be able to complete the planned laps in the morning session because of the issues in the gearbox.
Moreover, he said that they stopped before the completion of their planned laps as they found something in the data but realised later that it was nothing. Later after having an incomplete morning session, they were able to gather some valuable information
during the afternoon about performance of the car which will definitely help the team in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
