Mark Webber says he can still win championship title – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber claims that he still has a chance to win the championship title and insisted that if he will be in the front, he will not allow anyone to pass him in the remainder of the season.
Webber has been surrounded by many rumours that he has received orders from his team to support his teammate, Sebastian Vettel in winning the championship. However, the team principal, Christian Horner has completely discharged the speculations and said
that they will never give any such instructions to the Australian driver as long as he has a chance to claim the title.
Moreover, the Aussie has clarified that he will fight his own battle till the end of the season. He also said that he is confidently looking forward to attain competitive results in the Indian Grand Prix which is going to be held at Buddh International Circuit
this weekend.
“Mathematically I have a chance,” he said. “If I'm in the lead this weekend I won't pull over for anyone. This weekend, if I have a chance to win the grand prix I'll go for it.”
Even though, he admitted that it is extremely hard to reduce the gap to the drivers ahead of him. Nonetheless, he said that he is not feeling upset and is targeting to perform at his best in the remaining four races of the ongoing season.
“It's going to take a lot of smelly races for Seb and Fernando. Obviously Suzuka hurt; that was a big chunk of points we missed there and it would be nice to have those points but we don't and they've gone and there is obviously a bigger margin there,” he
said.
“Very difficult, but never say never,” he added.
Although, the veteran German driver is currently leading the drivers’ championship after claiming his third consecutive victory in the Korean GP and is 6 points ahead of his main opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Nonetheless, there are still four races
left and keeping the unpredictability of this season in mind, nothing can be projected.
Let’s see who wins the championship title this year.
