Mark Webber says he faced engine issues in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he faced engine issues which hindered his performance in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Webber started from 4th grid position in the last race but he could only secure 7th place finish and remained unable to match the pace of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
The Australian driver said that he struggled during the beginning of the race due to which he lost the chance of a competitive finish. Nevertheless, he expressed that he is feeling contended with his performance in the Canadian GP.
“In the first ten laps, we had a small issue with the engine which we had to manage, but then I settled into the pace. It's hard to get it right here - if you push to try and pass you kill the tyres but if you wait, then you find you're on the same strategy
and finish behind them anyway. I think ultimately we were quick at times today and it's good that we finished in the points. With hindsight we could have done a different strategy, but it's easy to say that now and I've had worse days than today,” he said.
Besides, the team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner also said that although Webber faced engine hesitation problem during the start of the race, however, he performed quite convincingly and managed to score some reasonable points.
At present, he is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 79 points. Moreover, he is 12 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 6 points behind the defending champion, Vettel.
Meanwhile, Red Bull are currently leading the constructors’ championship with 164 points and they are 31 points ahead of their main rival, McLaren.
Over and above, they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races and trying their best to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations so as to improve the pace of their car to defend their championship title
this year.
