Mark Webber says he is not ‘super close’ to teammate Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Mark Webber has admitted that he does not have a ‘super close’ relationship with his teammate Sebastian Vettel but they still respect each other.
“We've been up and down, probably like any relationship or marriage,” Webber said. “Sometimes it's great and sometimes you need to work at it a bit more. We obviously have good respect for each other. I think ultimately what's at stake, it's not possible
for us to be super close but in general it's good.”
He told that it had been very silly to him as the German media speculated that there were problems between them after the Indian Grand Prix while in actual they were both travelling on the same plane.
He added, “With team-mates it's always a testy relationship where I think you get closer when you stop. It's like with David Coulthard and myself, we were okay as team-mates, good respect, but as soon as you stop the guard comes down and you are closer.”
Since the Australian driver has signed on another year’s contract with Red Bull Racing, he has stated that he will continue his F1 career as long as he has the motivation to succeed. He insisted that if every other driver started to quit the sport because
they were failing to win the championship, then you will only see a few drivers competing on the grid. He said that his main focus is to fight for the title. Webber had been trailing Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who had been in lead at that time, with forty
points heading into the Belgian GP. Later on, he was replaced by Vettel.
Webber said that he has some very special memories from the last three years of his career and it is very obvious that he is not on the peak of his career at the present time. He added that he will quit when he knows it is the right time for not continuing.
The driver has not earned the F1 championship yet but has improved his performance significantly from last season when he was being easily out performed by Vettel.
