Mark Webber says he missed a very big chance of victory at Nurburgring – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he missed a very big chance to challenge for a victory in the 2013 German Grand Prix after which he could only secure 7th place finish.
Webber performed impressively well in the qualifying at Nurburgring and managed to secure 3rd grid position for the race. Later, on the race day, he took a strong start and was behind his teammate, Sebastian Vettel who claimed an incredible win. However,
his wheel was detached which was left loose after his first pit stop and struck to an FOM cameraman. Resultantly, he lost some crucial time and could only secure 7th position in the race.
The Australian driver said that he could have scored a win in the preceding race if hadn’t faced the tyre detachment issue. Nevertheless, he expressed that he efficiently limited the damage for his team and managed to score some good points at the end of
the race.
“It's the most possible time loss you can have,” Webber said. “You lose a wheel, obviously the guys have got to come and get the car back and it's fortunate that everyone is OK - obviously the wheel comes off and that's the most important thing.”
“After that then you focus on the result. We missed a very big chance to challenge for the win today. In the end I did what I can do. That's it … it makes the result even worse when I knew that I was with these guys at the first round of pit stops looking
very good,” he added.
The Aussie has performed remarkably well in the season until now and is standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 93 points. He has secured three podium finishes in the season so far and has managed to score competitive points for his team
with consistency.
It will be important to mention that the 36-year-old has decided to leave F1 at the end of this season. Let’s see how he performs in the Hungarian GP which is going to be held at Hungaroring on July 28, 2013.
