Mark Webber says he will not take any supporting role for Sebastian Vettel in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is not going to play a supporting role for his teammate, Sebastian Vettel in the 2013 Formula 1 season and will fight his own battle.
Webber stood amongst one of the most consistent point scorers in this season and has delivered amazing performance. Moreover, he was one of the most competent title contenders during the start of the season. However, he couldn’t match the pace of Vettel
during the last few races and could only secure sixth place in the drivers’ championship.
On the other hand, the veteran German driver successfully claimed his third championship title and stayed 101 points ahead of the Aussie.
Nevertheless, the 36-year-old is not feeling disappointed over his uncompetitive results as compared to his team fellow and asserted that he is positively looking forward to come up stronger in the coming year.
It will be important to mention that he has supported his teammate in many races, but now he has insisted that he is going to play his own game to win the championship title.
“Obviously with Sebastian's form, he's clearly on the front foot. Not only from within our team but he's won three world titles on the bounce now so all the drivers have got to try and topple him,” Webber told
Reuters.
“I don't go there thinking I've got to be playing a team role as such. I'm there for myself, to get the best results possible and to do that I need to be part of the team. So, no, I'm not going there thinking in a supporting role at all,” the Australian
driver added.
Besides, he said that they have not dominated in this season as compared to the last one because of some issues concerning their car’s design, which they faced during the opening few races. Nonetheless, he said that they are aiming to make the substantial
developments for the next season so as to defend their championship title.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the coming year and whether he achieves his target of winning the world championship or not.
