Mark Webber says it is difficult to decide right time for retirement – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber, who drives for Red Bull Racing, has stated that deciding the right time for retirement is very important but difficult as well.
“Timing's very important,” Webber told the GP International magazine. “I haven't been there yet, but this is going to be a very, very difficult moment, no question about it. I suppose it's just about getting the timing right... not pulling the plug too early,
knowing you have more to give of yourself, or going too long and not being quick enough or struggling to do the things you used to be able to do. That can become an issue as well.”
The Australian driver admitted that while the learning process in F1 never ends but the experience alone is not enough for good results. He said that when he had been 22 years old, he was nowhere in terms of wisdom but now he is very experienced which has
become a part of his skill set. However, he added that there comes a time when even having so much experience fails to keep you at the front of grid. He said that will be the right time to stop.
Webber was strong during the first half of the 2012 F1 season doing much better as compared to his championship winning teammate Sebastian Vettel. He was closest to Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who was leading the drivers’ championship at that time. Webber
won two races during the first half namely the Monaco GP and British GP. As the season reached the Belgian GP, Webber was trailing Alonso with a difference of forty points. However, Vettel became much stronger in the second half leaving Webber behind to finish
sixth in the drivers’ championship.
Following the end of the season, Webber arrived in Australia to attend his Tasmania Challenge. After that he also went under another surgery on his leg that he had broken in an accident during the Tasmania Challenge in 2008. The surgery was required to remove
a piece of metal that had been inserted for recovery during the previous one.
Webber will be beginning his 12th year in F1 with the 2013 F1 season.
