Mark Webber says it is very difficult to decide the right time for retirement – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that it is very difficult to decide the right time for retirement from Formula 1.
Webber successfully extended his deal with the Milton Keynes based squad for the 2013 F1 season and is confidently looking forward to deliver his best for his team in this year.
Besides, he said that it is very hard to time retirement in the sport. He also said that he has not decided anything about his retirement until now.
“Timing's very important,” Webber explained to GP International magazine. “I haven't been there yet, but this is going to be a very, very difficult moment, no question about it.”
“I suppose it's just about getting the timing right... not pulling plug too early, knowing you have more to give of yourself, or going too long and not being quick enough or struggling to do things you used to be able to do. That can become an issue as well,”
he said.
In addition, he asserted that there comes a point in every driver’s career at which he must retire.
“But there comes a point where even that's not enough to keep you at front. And that's when you need to stop,” he added.
The Aussie stood amongst the most consistent point scorers during the start of 2012 and even remained in the fight for the title for some time. But, unfortunately he faced some technical problems which hindered his pace in some grands prix due to which he
failed to keep up his consistency and lost some important points in the championship.
The 36-year-old scored 179 points in the last season and secured sixth place finish in the drivers’ championship. Furthermore, he remained ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and behind major competitor, Jenson Button of McLaren.
He has been deemed as one of the most hardworking drivers in the sport. However, he has not been able to claim a title until now. Nonetheless, his hopes are very high, let’s see how he performs in 2013 and whether he will be able to win a championship in
the coming years or not.
