Mark Webber says it was not possible for them to fight drivers on straight line – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing says that it was not possible for them to overtake on the straight line during the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa and the two pit stop strategy was not fruitful.
He said that they settled into a fast race and it was obvious that overtaking on the track was difficult for them. He added that he and his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, had a little fight to cross each other but he is fine with it.
Additionally, he said that in the DRS zone after Eau Rouge it was not possible for them to overtake other drivers in the straight line and he was unable to get most out of his car.
Webber said, “We settled into a steady race and it became very obvious that it was difficult for us to overtake on track. Obviously Seb and I had a little fight, which was fine, but you could see after Eau Rouge [in the DRS zone] it was not possible for
us to fight other people on the straight line.”
Furthermore, he said that they tried to cross some drivers but it was just like taking chance. He added that he was stuck behind Vitaly Petrov at a point and lost some time. Besides, he said that it was not intentionally done by Petrov and he was just doing
his driving.
Moreover, he said that they were not too lucky after the start and they could not get most out of the situation. His two pit stop strategy did not prove to be fruitful.
“I had Vitaly on the outlap, he was just doing his thing, but I lost time there. But the stars just didn't line up too much after the start and we didn't get the most out of the situation,” he added.
At a point, during the race Webber was driving at the fourth position however, he could only make it to the sixth position by the end of the race. He was 1.4 seconds behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari, whereas he edged Michael Schumacher with a gap of 22.1 seconds.
Let’s see how Webber’s car performs in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix scheduled on September 9, 2012.
