Mark Webber scores first pole position of 2011 Formula 1 season at Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing team’s Mark Webber scored his first pole position of the 2011 Formula 1 season at the Spanish Grand Prix as his fastest lap was around 2 tenths of a second faster than his teammate Sebastian Vettel who is going to start the race alongside
him in row 1.
Webber scored the pole position at Barcelona in 2010 as well. He was unable to use the Kinetic Energy Recovery System during his flying lap but still, the two Red Bull drivers were almost a second faster than the rest of the pack.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton scored the 3rd place ahead of Fernando Alonso who finally broke the habit of starting the race from the 5th place. Alonso had started all four races of the 2011 Formula 1 season from the 5th place
but this Sunday, he is finally going to start the race from row two alongside his former teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Jenson Button on the other hand, is going to start the race from 5th place on the grid alongside Lotus Renault GP’s Vitaly Petrov who qualified in 6th place.
It was disappointing to see that both of Mercedes GP drivers were unable to score good results during the qualifying session as Nico Rosberg qualified in 7th place while his teammate, Michael Schumacher is going to start the race from the 10th
place on the grid. Schumacher did not take part in the final qualifying session of the Spanish GP.
Felipe Massa is going to start from 8th place on the grid followed by Williams’ Pastor Maldonado. This is a pretty good chance for Williams to score their first points of the 2011 Formula 1 season as the start of the season so far had been disastrous
for the team.
The race is going to be pretty interesting as McLaren and Ferrari are going to give the two Red Bull drivers a tough time at the start of the race and the driver to reach the first corner first is going to have the advantage.
