Mark Webber sets fastest time in FP2 of 2012 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has topped the timesheets in the second free Friday practice session of the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix held at Suzuka.
Webber set the fastest time of 1 minute and 32.493 seconds on soft Pirelli compound tyres. Moreover, he completed 34 laps and remained ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who was second in the first session too.
The British driver was followed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who stayed ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari set the 5th best time of 1 minute and 33.093 seconds. Furthermore, the Spaniard remained ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The French driver was followed by Jenson Button of McLaren who struggled a bit with his car’s pace in the second session as compared to FP1 in which he topped the timesheets.
Button was followed by Bruno Senna of Williams who stayed ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari. The Brazilian driver remained ahead the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
The record championship holder stood ahead of his teammate, Nico Rosberg who was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber. Additionally, Perez’s teammate, Kamui Kobayashi came 13th in the timesheets and was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who didn’t
seem comfortable behind the wheel of his car.
The Finnish driver remained ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who stayed ahead of Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne.
Vergne was followed by Caterham drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov. Besides, Timo Glock of Marussia came 20th in the timesheets and remained ahead of his teammate, Charles Pic. The French driver stood ahead of HRT drivers, Pedro de la
Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan.
There were two accidents during the afternoon at Spoon corner. Paul di Resta of Force India damaged his car’s front-right suspension and the front wing by hitting the barrier. Later on, Schumacher had the same accident due to which his front wing was dislodged.
All the drivers ran on soft tyres during the afternoon and successfully gathered the necessary information about their cars’ update packages. Let’s see how all the contenders perform in the qualifying tomorrow.
