Mark Webber shouldn’t have revealed his shoulder injury – Flavio Briatore
According to the former boss of RenaultF1 team and Red Bull Racing Team’s manager, Flavio Briatore, Mark Webber should not have revealed that he drove the final couple of races of the 2010 Formula 1 season with a shoulder injury.
Mark Webber was able to help his team secure the constructors’ title but failed to secure the drivers’ title for himself.
His teammate Sebastian Vettel took the 2010 Formula 1 drivers’ title, even though he was in a worse situation than the Aussie driver until the grand finale of the 2010 Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi.
Mark revealed that the main reason behind his failure was that he had a fractured shoulder as a result of a cycling fall before the Japanese Grand Prix in October. Webber hid this from his team and still insists that this injury did not affect his performance.
However, his manager thinks differently.
“It would have been better to leave it with no excuses at all, or to have said it when it happened. The truth is that Mark lost the championship only because of the mistake in Korea. Otherwise, he would be champion”, said Flavio.
The Australian revealed this news in December in his new book and as a result, Red Bull’s team boss Christian Horner was obviously not happy about it.
“I didn't even know about the book, let alone the shoulder. It is obviously disappointing that Mark said nothing. It was an injury that did not appear to have any effect on his performance but all the same it would have been nice to know about it. Our drivers
have an obligation to make sure they are fit”, said Christian.
Other than that, Briatore also stated that his other driver, the runner-up for the 2010 Formula 1 championship Fernando Alonso is going to be even stronger in 2011 and he is totally focussed as always. The Spaniard hopes to secure the title this year and
he claims that he is thinking about absolutely nothing but the title this time.
“Fernando is very motivated and Ferrari have promised to give him a car that he deserves which is in front of the others. In addition to that, the organisation changes made are a sign of Ferrari's trust in their driver”, said Flavio.
It would be interesting to see how both of Flavio Briatore’s drivers perform in 2011 as the fans are expecting a lot from both Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber.
