Mark Webber still knows how to drive
After embracing a poor qualifying this Saturday, the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber completely denied that it had nothing to do with his form.
The driver very vividly proclaimed that his form now at the last stage of the championship battle is just as good as it has been all through the season. He further added that in any case if he is not able to bag victory at the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix today, the reason will not be the disappointing qualifying of yesterday.
In order to bag the first victory of his career the 34-year-old needs to out-score the charts’ topper, Fernando Alonso by nine points. Although, his team as well as his fans were pretty hopeful for the Australian’s victory but
taking fifth place on the grid for today’s race has made the battle very tough for him.
On the other hand, the rest of the top three rivals stand ahead of him now. Sebastian Vettel, his teammate has occupied the pole position followed by the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton. The toughest contender of the season, Alonso
has booked third place while the champion of 2009 Jenson Button holds 4th slot on the grid.
Although the situation presents a tough challenge for the driver, yet he is very optimistic and is looking forward for a great racing experience this evening. Webber has had the best season of his career this year, driving the
fastest car of the year with the Red Bull Racing. The Australian has been successful in bagging four race-wins and has also enjoyed a 14-point advantage in the points’ tally earlier this season- the highest any of the charts’ topper has accumulated all through
the season.
However, the Korean round brought the driver down in the charts and he has not been able to regain the lead again since then.
While talking to the media earlier today the driver said, "People forget that I was maybe six hundredths of a second off winning Suzuki - if I’d got ahead in qualifying. Brazil was very close. Every time Sebastian has won a race
this year, I’ve been two seconds behind him. That’s the margin it’s been, and we live by the sword.”
He explained that even if his teammate was faster than him that does not say he has all of a sudden forgotten how to drive. Moreover, he said that he is still the same and he is resolute to get the best out of his car this evening.
Recalling some of the earlier races of the season, Webber proclaimed that he has loved bagging victory and now wishes to see the same glory of podium this weekend as well.
However, he very explicitly added that even if he is not able to get the 2010 championship, this poor qualifying does not have anything to do with it. Rather many things together make a victory or a failure and at times it is only
that one does not deserve it at that time.
The driver continued telling, "It’s over 12 months of hard work, it’s not just one point. You don’t get the chance of winning the championship without performing over the whole season, and that’s what I’ve done and why I’ve got
a chance. You can’t just criticize one qualifying session, if you look at some of Fernando’s qualifying this year, it wasn’t so good - it happens."
Only a few more hours to go and the ultimate battle of the most thrilling and exciting season of the Formula One history is going to unwrap at the beautifully built circuit of Yas Marina. The World Champion of this season would
always be remembered as the man who not only fought on the track but also battled against immense stress and pressure off it.
