Mark Webber struggles with his tyres at Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing struggled with his tyres during the Italian Grand, which resulted in his spin towards the end of race, at the exit of Variante Ascari of the Monza circuit.
The team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner, told that the spin of the car was due to the wear out of tyres. He added that the flat spots on the tyres resulted in heavy vibration in the car therefore, they had to bring the car back to pits, retiring
from race.
Horner believes that Webber started facing wear out problem from lap 36.
Horner said, “His slip on the tyres started to increase quite significantly and he just ran out of tyres at the end of the day and lost it on the exit of Ascari.”
The Australian driver told that the wear out of tyres dropped his speed. He added that they had lost the radio contact at a point and he was facing difficulties in talking with the team. The start of the race was one of the worst starts for the Red Bull
driver but still he tried to get the most out of the machine.
“I was trying to push and I knew Nico was coming with some pretty fresh tyres. I didn't want to lose any time with Michael so I was letting him go and I was a bit of a passenger trying to push as hard as I could,” he said.
Furthermore, the Red Bull driver said, about the race at the Monza circuit, that it was a day when they were unable to do what they were capable of doing.
He started the Italian GP from the 11th grid and could only make it to 51 laps. He adopted one stop strategy which did not go in his favour and he retired.
It was not just Webber who has issues with his car on the Monza circuit but Sebastian Vettel, his teammate, also struggled from a problem with his Alternator. Webber had his luck at odds during the Italian GP which resulted in widening the gap in his championship
points.
Let’s see how he performs at the upcoming Singaporean Grand Prix scheduled on September 23, 2012.
