Mark Webber takes learning from his struggles in the German GP – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he has learnt a lot from his struggles in the 2012 German Grand Prix and is aiming to hit back in the Hungarian GP.
Webber showed a convincing performance during the qualifying at Hockenheim and came third on the timesheets. However, he faced five-place grid penalty because of his unscheduled gearbox change. Afterwards, he struggled with the tyre handling problem and
could not optimise on the given circumstances as he came 8th in the race after taking a start from the same grid slot.
Furthermore, he said that he felt a little bit disappointed over his penalty due to which he could have a competent start. Moreover, he said that he faced some difficulties with the car’s setup and the tyre variations.
“[I've] got a few little ideas, yeah,” said the Australian driver. “I think we were particularly weak on the harder tyre. Didn't have a chance on the option obviously in traffic and just then people teeing up undercuts and stuff like that so we didn't really
get going in that first stint with free air. I think obviously the penalty - I finished the first lap out of position as well and that just compounded as the race goes on, but clearly we were not quick enough in certain sections of the race.”
Nonetheless, the Australian driver said that he is not feeling upset over his uncompetitive score in the preceding race and has got many lessons from his strivings on which he is working at his best. Moreover, he put a special emphasis on the tyre management
issue and aimed to make a stronger comeback in the race ahead.
In addition, he said that he is expecting no more tyre related issues as there are only two compounds for the race ahead which include soft and medium.
At present, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 120 points. Besides, he is 10 points ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel and is 34 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Let’s see how the Aussie performs in the upcoming season.
