Mark Webber thinks Adrian Newey has played a crucial role in Red Bull’s success – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey has played a crucial role in their success in Formula 1 until now.
The Milton Keynes based team struggled a lot with RB8’s design during the pre-season testing programme. Furthermore, the same issues persisted even during the opening few races which especially hindered the performance of Webber’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel
who completely dominated during 2011 F1 season.
Nevertheless, Newey kept on making essential efforts and managed to develop a competitive car for his team towards the end of the season. Eventually, Vettel became unbeatable and performed tremendously well during the last few races with the fastest car
in the field.
The veteran German driver tremendously claimed his successive third drivers’ title and Red Bull won their third consecutive constructors’ championship in 2012.
It will be important to mention that Vettel had a very tough fight with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who fought until the end of the season. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old won the championship by just 3 points from Alonso after securing 6th place
finish in the epic season finale.
The Australian driver has praised the efforts of Newey and asserted that the Briton has been their success factor. He also said that although they faced difficulties during the start of the season, but the 53-year-old never lost his focus and worked very
hard to get the team back on track.
“We need, behind all the smoke and mirrors of a Formula 1 team, to make a racing car as quick as possible to do the business in qualifying and the races,” Webber said.
“Adrian never loses sight of that and he's a huge influence,” he said. “You have him beating the drum and generally being a big beacon for the team here in terms of design and philosophy of where the car needs to be. You need that to be successful here.”
“And when you start getting some success as well things change so quickly. Things becomes much easier,” he added.
Besides, he said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the next season. Let’s see whether they will be able to defend their title or not.
