Mark Webber thinks that Robert Kubica’s absence is going to affect the 2011 Formula 1 season
Lotus Renault GP’s Robert Kubica went through a horrifying accident during a rally event this past weekend and almost lost his right hand as a result. His team revealed that he will not be able to compete in the 2011 Formula 1 season and the team will now
use another driver as their full season driver for the upcoming season.
It was obviously very disappointing as the fans were expecting a lot from Renault this year and Robert Kubica was the perfect man for the team. Mark Webber recently stated that Robert’s absence is going to be a big loss for Formula 1 in 2011.
“It's a big loss for our sport that he's not here this year and a big loss for us as competitors, as we're motivated to race against the best guys in the world and Robert is one of them,” Mark said of Kubica’s accident.
The Aussie wishes that Robert recovers as soon as possible and he is looking forward to have him back on the F1 grid whenever he is ready.
“It was a big shock for all of us, I couldn't believe it. I'm happy, as it looks like the people involved have done an incredible job for him after the accident to keep him in the best shape possible,” he said.
It was believed that Kubica could have been a potential contender for the drivers’ title this year but unfortunately, it seems that it will take a lot of time for full recovery and it is still not certain whether his right hand would function properly ever
again or not.
Renault’s boss Eric Boullier however believes that the Pole might recover until the third quarter of the 2011 Formula 1 season and that the team will accept him with open arms whenever he wants to come back to the team.
Robert was topping the timesheets at the first pre-season test session in Valencia and this clearly showed that Renault had a very strong car and that they were coming up with the best setups for their new car as well.
However, Mark also talked about the 1st day of the 2nd pre-season test session that took place in Jerez and he believes that it was a good day for the team as they did almost 100 laps and the car was running
pretty well throughout the session.
“On the performance side I think we're going okay; it's very early and you don't know who's doing what, but we're focusing on ourselves and seem to be going in the right direction,” said Mark.
It is going to be an interesting 2011 season and the fans and teams are finding it hard to wait to find out who replaces Robert Kubica at Renault for the upcoming Formula 1 season this year.
