Mark Webber tops the second practice session at the Korean International Circuit
The first practice session is always more of a testing session for the teams as the teams want to discuss the tracks conditions and layout with their drivers in order to configure their cars with the best possible setup for the coming race on Sunday.
The first practice session was led by Lewis Hamilton as he scored the fastest time and it seemed that the Red Bulls were struggling marginally as they were nowhere near the pace of the McLarens and Ferraris. However, Red Bull managed to make a point in the
second practice session as the current championship leader Mark Webber scored the fastest time in the second Friday practice session of the Korean Grand Prix.
It seemed that the teams were still configuring their cars and making further adjustments since the Korean International circuit is a new track and the drivers were not used to the track. The drivers drove around the track carefully as they wanted to find
the exact braking points on the track in order to brake as late as they can to maintain their speed. The engineers were experimenting with the cars to find the perfect car set-up and it seemed that the teams were satisfied with the track keeping in mind that
the decision of having a Korean Grand Prix on such a short notice was criticized vitally by the critics.
However, after a 90 minute second practice session on Friday, Mark Webber led the pack followed by Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Sebastian Vettel finished in 7th place behind Felipe
Massa while Jenson Button finished in 5th place behind Robert Kubica.
The practice session was pretty streamlined and everything was going perfectly. The weather was pleasant and warm at times with no signs of rain. The drivers were driving carefully and it seemed that the drivers were getting used to the track with due time.
However, the drivers were complaining that the track was quite slippery but we can assume that it is because this was the first time ever that a Grand Prix took place on the track and there was not enough rubber on track and that is the reason why the track
was slippery.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see what the teams come up with at the final practice session before the inaugural qualifying session at the Korean International circuit.
