Mark Webber upbeat for the 2011 Formula One campaign
The Red Bull driver Mark Webber believes that with a very competitive car and a great team around him, the 2011 season could prove to be quite a blessing for him.
The driver stood beside the sparkling new Red Bull RB7, as the blue cloth was removed to unveil the dazzling red and blue painted car on Tuesday. The launching ceremony took place in the morning at Valencia, ahead of the first pre-season test session. Webber’s
teammate, and the reigning World Champion, Sebastian Vettel will be taking the car to the track shortly for its first drive, while Webber will be seen behind the Red Bull wheel on Wednesday at the second day of practice.
While taking to the media at the launching ceremony, the Australian racer was in an upbeat mood despite of all the differences he faced last year with the team’s management. While recalling the events of the last season Webber told the reporters, “Obviously
it was very hard in the middle of a season when we're all achieving some pretty big things, as the team did last year, to tackle and learn about some of the things that went on. But as a group we went through a huge amount last year, and we certainly all learned
from that. I know I certainly did.”
The 34-year-old had an exciting but tough 2010 campaign. He started off the season quite nicely, bagging points at every second race. At the 5th race of the season, the Spanish Grand Prix, he claimed his first victory of the season and then there
was no stopping him. He kept scoring points and race wins, one after the other. More than half of the season Webber led the points’ tally. However, as the 2010 season came towards its final twists and turns, the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and his teammate,
Vettel posed great threats to him. Finally, the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix proved very unlucky for him. His 8th place finish at the race deprived him from his first potential championship.
However, now as Webber heads for the next season he is very optimistic about his improved performance. He proclaimed earlier today, “So the way I am approaching this year is head on again. I've a great opportunity, and a great team around me, to try to improve
on what I did last year. There are a lot of things I did right last year, some very proud moments, with 80 per cent of my season in the middle being good. So it's a case of trying to improve on those things, and go for it.”
Will Weber be able to carve his name in the sport’s history by giving an unparalleled performance? Only time will tell.
