Mark Webber wins Monaco Grand Prix too

Mark Webber wiped off any doubts any team might have that the Red Bulls will not have a happy time in Monaco and the Red Bull revolution is about to end. Webber led the Mote Carlo grand prix from start to finish to register his 2nd successive win of 2010 formula one season, following up his win at the Spanish Grand Prix.

His team Mate Sebastian Vettel followed on the second place, that stamped Red Bull’s dominance, and reassured everyone that they are not ready to slow down come what may. Renault’s Robert Kubica was 3rd followed by Felipe Massa from Ferrari in 4th, while 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton was 5th in his MCLaren. Fernando Alonso who crashed his car during the last practice session, started from the back, but made huge strides by making it to the 6th spot at the end, only to be piped by Michael Schumacher on 5th place.

But the overtake manoeuvre by Michael Schumacher will be reviewed by the race stewards, who immediately said that the tussle between the two at the final corner while the safety car was on the tracks will be reviewed. According to the rulebook of formula one article 40.13 states "If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

Alonso meanwhile displayed amazing skill and finesse on the tracks, as he made his way up to the 6th spot despite not being part of qualifying round and having to start form the bottom of the grid. Mercedes 2nd driver Nico Rosberg finished 8th, which meant he dropped 2 places form his starting grid position.

Force India’s duo completed the top ten with Adrian Suttil taking 9th place just 0.3 seconds ahead of his teammate Vitantonio Luizzi. The 2 other drivers to finish the race were from Toro Rosso Sebastien Buemi, who took 11th, and Jaime Alguesuari 12th.

The current world champion Jenson Button’s race was cut short early when he was forced to pull over at Sainte Devote as heavy smoke was coming out of his car’s engine.

Webber’s win in Monaco also sees him take over the leader board in driver standings, and the fact that Button failed to score a single point meant he takes a bigger lead than expected. The Aussie driver is now on 78 points, also joined by his teammate Sebastian Vettel, while Alonso lags behind with 73 points. And the man leading the table prior to the race Jenson Button is now on 4th with 70 points.

Talking about the brave Brazilian Felipe Massa who came back from a life threatening injury to take on the cockpit in his beloved Ferrari, has so far been playing second fiddle to his Spanish teammate Fernando Alonso but Massa proved his worth keeping at bay the 2008 world champion by claiming the 4th spot.

Once again one has to go back to the events prior to the Monaco grand prix where, Red Bull’s competitors were all hoping that Monte Carlo would see the end of Bull’s domination. On the contrary it has made them even stronger and the fact that even the street circuit with lack of long straights did not cause them any problems. The rest may have a bigger fight then they expected in the last 12 races of 2010 F1 season.
