Mark Webber’s stay at Red Bull Racing for 2012 Formula 1 season confirmed – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing have confirmed that they have signed an official contract with Mark Webber which secures his seat at the team until the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
“When we sat down and started talking about 2012, it was immediately obvious that Mark and the team wanted to continue our successful relationship. This meant agreeing an extension for 2012 was very straightforward. Mark knows the team well, having been
with us since 2007, and his motivation, fitness and commitment is as high as it has ever been,” said team principal of Red Bull Racing Christian Horner.
At first, the team admitted that they want to keep the Australian driver for the 2012 Formula 1 season as well but stated that they had not signed an official contract with him by then.
Webber on the other hand also stated that he does want to stay in Formula 1 if he stays at a strong team at least until the end of the 2012 season as a result of which it was quite clear that their negotiations were running pretty smoothly.
Other than that, Horner also stated that he believes Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber are a great combination for RBR and that they push each other to the limit keeping in mind that they are not the best of friends on or off track.
“The pairing of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel is a very strong one, they push each other hard and we are extremely happy the pairing will remain unchanged for a fourth season,” he added.
Nevertheless, the team has proved that they can perform strongly season after season and that their 2010 championship was not just a one-hit wonder.
The team is leading the 2011 Formula 1 championship as well quite dominantly and if they keep performing this way, Ferrari or McLaren might not be able to stop them from winning the titles this year either.
