Mark Williams: Judd Trump is an excellent player but needs improvement
The 2010-2011 snooker season saw a couple of tremendous new players that changed the face of the game with their classy snooker skills. Judd Trump was one of them and world number one Mark Williams
has once again hailed the young lad for his scintillating performance last season. He also believes that with a little improvement, Trump can bring fireworks to snooker in 2011-12 Snooker Season.
Williams was defending champion in last season’s China Open but could not manage to make his run into the next season as champion again, crashing out of the event in the very first round. However,
Trump entered into the event as a qualifier and sparked his cue brilliantly to make it to the ultimate stage. He defeated Mark Selby in the final and grabbed his first major ranking title.
Later on, Trump’s performance in the 2011 World Snooker Championship proved him as one of the future legends, as he surged into the final of the championship. Although Trump lost to John Higgins in
the final, he stunned many snooker critics with his classy game-play.
However, the 2011-12 Snooker Season did not start well for the Bristolian, as he crashed out of Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 at the hands of Q School tour card winner, David Gilbert, by
4-1. Williams believes Trump can do better if he improves himself in the current season.
He spoke to his fans on a Chinese twitter-like website, “Judd trump is an excellent player but needs to keep improving and practicing hard and not let the last couple of tournaments get to him.”
He added, “My top 4 players in the world to come would be something like Ding, Trump, Selby, Murphy. With either of those capable of winning lots of competitions.”
Trump and Williams have gone head-to-head only once in last season when they played each other in PTC Event 1. Williams whitewashed Trump, 4-0 in that match. Right now, both cuemen are waiting for
their respective opponents in 2011 Australian Goldfields Open starting from July 18 at Bendigo Stadium in Victoria.
