Mark Williams V/S Shaun Murphy: Semifinal of the UK Championship
The World’s second highest ranked tournament, the 12BET.com UK Snooker Championship, is underway at the Telford International Centre, Shropshire, England. The tournament has reached its last-4 stages.
In the first semifinal match on the 10th of December, World No.11, Mark Allen faces the most feared adversary in the game, John Higgins. Allen will have to struggle and fight hard against the World No.2 Higgins, as Higgins
is nailing every single opponent face to the green table.
Unlike the first semifinal, the second match will be much more balanced , as two giants of today’s snooker, World No.4 Shaun Murphy, and experienced World No.6 Mark Williams, come face to face in the second semifinal, scheduled
on the 11th of December, 2010. The encounter between the two is eagerly awaited by snooker fans all over the world.
The 28-years-old Shaun Murphy, has booked his spot in the semifinal, by beating World No.1 Neil Robertson, in a breath-taking 9-7 match. Murphy has played fine snooker and has shown steely nerves in the match against Robertson,
by playing safe and genuine strokes.
One can see that Murphy is coming in really strong, the Irish cue-man happens to be in good form at the moment. Three times world champion and with a highest break of 147, Murphy possesses an impressive professional record. He
got professional status in the sports in 1998 and won the UK snooker championship in 2008. Considering his statistics one can assume, the dedicated pianist, has the potential to beat any of the big names in the sports.
Other characteristics which give Murphy an edge over most of the players around are his “determination” and “self-belief”. Many remember his match against Ding Junhui, in the final of the Rundili Wuxi classic in June, 2010. When
Shaun made one of the most colossal come-backs in the history of snooker, converting a deficit of 8-2 into a 9-8 victory in the final.
Murphy has a shiny career history, and still looks very promising. The Kind-hearted Irish cueist, who raises charity and donates quite often, looks forward to reach the finals of the championship, and eventually pick the title.
On the other hand Murphy’s opponent in the game, Mark Williams has still to offer some great snooker this season. The 36-year old cue-man is ranked No. 6 in the international world rankings and is a seasoned player, with a number
of professional titles under his belt. Being a two-times UK champion, world champion, and having a break score of 147, Mark Williams has an impressive track-record.
Mark Williams has reached the semifinals by beating Mark Davis, Stephen Hendry, and Mark Joyce. Besting these opponents, Williams is indeed a strong contestant in this tournament.
The second semifinal of the tournament is of more importance, as the two gigantic cue-men will fray each other on the green baize table, in order to reach final of the tournament, where most likely John Higgins will be waiting
for one of these players.
The left handed English cue-man, Mark William is below his opponent Murphy, in the rankings, but both are fine and seasoned players.
