Mark Williams calls Crucible Theatre ‘rubbish’: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Playing at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield is always the dream of any potter in the world. Every cueman struggles throughout the season to improve his rankings and book a place in the line-up of World Snooker Championship. However, former two-time World
Snooker Championship winner, Wales’ Mark Williams does not like to play at the Crucible arena and prefers playing at Pontins.
Unlike other top dogs of snooker, Williams has had a bit unlucky recent snooker season and was unable to win any major ranking snooker tournament which of course affected not only his rankings in the professional circuit but also his performance at the baize.
However, the Welsh Potting Machine was able to occupy a place in the initial round of the Championship.
The 36-year-old is still due to play his first round match against the Chinese potter Liu Chuang. The match-up seems an easy encounter for the Welsh potter as Chuang is like a rookie against him. Nevertheless, Williams still wants to play preferably in Pontins
rather than playing at Crucible Theatre. He called the venue s***hole and added that he wants the World Snooker Championship in China.
While speaking to the local media, Williams said, “World Championships just around the corner. Shame it’s played in the crucible, s***hole, hopefully it will be in China soon. Rubbish, rather play in Pontins. Overhyped is correct. It’s only my opinion about
the Crucible WSA, so don’t send me any letters or fines.”
The Welshman added, “I don’t like the venue and have never liked playing there. It is everything about it, from the players’ lounge upwards. It is inevitable it will end up in China – they have five events already and we have only three.”
Williams will start his Crucible campaign from April 25 with his first round match against the Chinese. He has high hopes in this mega event because his season run has not provided him with any major success so far.
Williams has a potential second round clash with the former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan. Should he manages to face O’Sullivan in the second round, the clash will be thrilling and epic.
